Since different fibers vary in their sensitivity to moisture, the relative humidity of the storage area should be kept within an appropriate range to prevent excessive dampness, which could lead to mold growth or a deterioration in fiber properties. Exposure to direct sunlight must also be avoided to prevent fiber aging or discoloration caused by ultraviolet radiation.
Careful stacking and management are necessary to avoid deformation caused by heavy pressure or crushing. Blended yarns are typically stored as yarn packages (cones) or in bales; prolonged compression can loosen the yarn structure or cause deformation, thereby affecting subsequent processing and performance. Therefore, it is advisable to store them in layers with adequate spacing and to organize stock by batch, specification, and composition to facilitate future use and traceability.
Measures to prevent dust, pests, and contamination must also be implemented during storage. For blended yarns with a high natural fiber content, special attention should be paid to pest control; additionally, they should not be stored alongside chemicals or substances with strong odors to avoid contamination or alterations in material properties. During long-term storage, inventory should be inspected regularly to ensure consistent yarn quality and to prevent losses resulting from environmental fluctuations.
