The yarn count of a blended yarn is essentially a measure of its thickness; it is generally calculated based on the linear density of the finished yarn as a whole, rather than by calculating the contribution of each fiber type individually. In other words, once the blended yarn is produced, it is treated as a single, unified strand, and its count is expressed using a standard measurement system.

 

In the commonly used English Cotton Count (Ne) system, the count is determined by the number of 840-yard lengths contained in one pound of yarn under standard moisture regain conditions. For instance, a "40-count" yarn means that one pound of the yarn measures 40 times 840 yards. For blended yarns, the count can be calculated directly from the total weight and length of the finished product, without needing to account for the specific types of fibers within the blend.

 

Determining the count of a blended yarn typically involves controlling both the fiber blend ratio and the spinning process. Although theoretical calculations are based on the finished yarn as a whole, factors such as the specific gravity, moisture regain, and processing losses of the different fibers can influence the final result; therefore, the industry employs instrumental testing to calibrate and verify the yarn, ensuring the stability and consistency of the count.
